Semana Santa is celebrated from Palm Sunday during the week to Easter Sunday. In Spain Easter Monday is not recognised as a public holiday.

There are some fabulous Easter week processions to see. Parades leave the town church and slowly make their way through the streets carrying statues of Christ on the cross and the Virgin Mary in mourning. Religious brotherhoods (Hermandades) representing guilds of tradesman in all their finery, carry the very heavy statues with a slow rocking gait accompanied by drum beat, incense and candles. It is a huge honour that these Hermandades have in taking their turn in this ceremony as did their fathers and grandfathers before them. The whole town come together to witness and be part of this wonderful spectacle.
